Rock Creek Beach Closed Till Further Notice

The City of Mosier has been notified that there are elevated levels of E. Coli bacteria in the water at the Rock Creek beach, where the Wastewater Treatment Plant’s (WWTP) outfall pipe is. As a result, the City has closed Rock Creek Park Beach for swimming and recreation until the problem is addressed. Closure signs will be posted at the beach until detected levels of the bacteria return to allowable limits.

Note that the rest of Rock Creek Park is open.

This is for your safety! Water contact could make you sick.

Why did this happen?

The City’s WWTP has a UV system with outdated components, causing intermittent spikes of E. Coli and other bacteria at the site of the outfall pipe.

WWTP staff are preparing a UV replacement estimate for Council and addressing the system’s issues with frequent cleaning.
